History

In the spring of 1942, a group of mothers worked together to form Glenbrook Cooperative Nursery School and by 1945, Glenbrook was incorporated. In 1950, they settled into Ayrlawn Recreation Center for eight years. The school was housed in the Wildwood Baptist Church until 1961 and subsequently moved to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. In 1968, the school moved to its present location at Bethesda United Church of Christ.

What started in a private home as a small group of parents wanting to give their preschool aged children a cooperative experience, has grown into five different classes with additional supplemental programming located on the Bethesda United Church of Christ campus. Glenbrook is unaffiliated with the church and has a secular curriculum. We proudly welcome and learn from our diverse group of families that share their unique experiences and traditions.

For nearly 80 years, Glenbrook has been serving families in the Bethesda area. With a continuum of dedicated and responsible parents and staff, Glenbrook has earned a reputation for continuity and stability in the community.
