Parent Duties at Glenbrook

As a cooperative, Glenbrook’s administrative duties and daily operation are completely dependent on the families who comprise its membership. The school’s organization and policies reflect years of practical experience and the qualified staff that has helped provide the school with a well-developed philosophy.

The special nature of Glenbrook Cooperative Nursery School is the close working relationship between parents and teachers. This cooperative approach offers a unique support system as it builds a sense of community and togetherness for parents and children.

We ask our parents to participate in many ways:

  • by regularly taking part in your child’s classroom:
  • by holding a job at the school;
  • by attending membership and classroom meetings;
  • by engaging the school community at social events, fundraisers, etc.

Glenbrook holds regular meetings for the membership during the school year. The membership meetings are necessary to handle the business of the school. Attendance at these meetings is required.

Members of the preschool are required to hold a job. Our handbook contains a detailed explanation of each position. Please visit the Parent Resources page for the latest version of our Handbook which provides a list of jobs and descriptions. Glenbrook’s Board of Directors and staff meet one hour before each membership meeting. The Board is comprised of current parent members who hold jobs in the Executive Committee. Other key roles for maintaining the school and supporting its programs are filled by parents. At the end of the school year, parents are encouraged to share the skills and experiences as they complete their duties and hand off to incoming parents.
